Orvis Recon® Freshwater – USA-Made Fly Rod
The Orvis Recon® Freshwater draws on design and manufacturing technologies developed for the Helios™ series. Its graphite-composite blank combines low weight with strength, with each model’s action tailored to its length and line weight.
Helios™ technology and casting control
The blank features increased hoop strength, or resistance to transverse deformation. Controlled oscillation helps maintain the casting path and form precise loops, transferring energy efficiently as casting distance increases.
Lighter models support delicate presentations. More powerful versions provide the reserve needed for streamers, weighted nymphs and windy conditions. Longer rods offer greater line control when mending and fishing nymphs under an indicator.
Options for freshwater fishing
The range includes configurations for streams, rivers and lakes. Shorter rods suit trout fishing on small streams, while mid-range models allow anglers to switch between dry flies, nymphs and streamers, depending on the chosen configuration.
Components and finish
The blank has a matte olive finish with honey-coloured accents. A black Type III anodised aluminium reel seat features a wood insert. Chrome snake guides carry the fly line, and the stripping guide has a silicon carbide, or SiC, insert.
The four-piece construction makes transport easier. A nylon-covered protective rod tube is included.
